Today, we’re chatting with Dr. Josef Haid, Founder & CEO of Pick8ship who will be presenting on our Startup Stage at our conference on 30-31 October at Old Billingsgate.
Could you tell us more about Pick8ship?
Pick8ship is a disruptive new parcel logistics system that increases speed and flexibility, while reducing operating costs and investments by 30-50% and packaging waste by up to 90%.
When and why did you launch the business?
Pick8ship was founded 12 months ago with the Vision of a good disruption of parcel logistics. We are disruptive because we eliminate over 60% of handling steps of shipments from a producer to the customer, we automate and digitize the process at 30 to 50% lower cost and capital required. We help eliminating non-value adding cardboard and plastic packaging waste from the planet. Our ultimate goal is to build the logistics backbone for the circular economy. We believe Pick8ship is the container moment for parcel logistics, comparable to the introduction of the seafreight container to freight in the 1950ies.
What are your biggest milestones to date?
Filing of our three patents; testing of our fist smartboxes and trolleys with test purchases; developing our sector solutions based on the standard Pick8ship core modules: micro-sorting centers for last mile delivery, handling free fulfillment for sport shoes & fashion, micro-fulfillment solution for groceries, on-demand sorted fulfillment for hospital and care logistics. More to come, like (semi-) automated delivery with RoboVan. Pick8ship modules are mobile solutions, requiring a fraction of space and capital, operational in months not years (as of 2021).
What is your target market and how big is it?
80 billion parcels are sent worldwide per year, the market is expected to grow to over 300 billion by 2025. Our current focus markets are Switzerland and Germany. Target customers are retailers, parcel service providers and logistics companies.
Are you planning to raise funds over the coming months and what criteria should your ideal investor have?
Yes, we are planning rounds at the end of the year/early next year. Our ideal investors should be excited about our vision and the value creation potential of a good disruption of (parcel-) logistics.
