NOAH London is just around the corner, so we sat down with Europe’s most promising startups to learn more about why their products and services can revolutionize the digital ecosystem.
Today, we’re chatting with Giorgio Koppehele, CEO of Magic Horizons GmbH who will be presenting on our Startup Stage at our conference on 30-31 October at Old Billingsgate.
Could you tell us more about Magic Horizons?
Magic Horizons develops a global holistic platform for relaxation & mental health for virtual reality based on scientific research. We provide a deep relaxation state and mental health exercises at the touch of a button through immersive virtual reality and binaural audio for a global audience
When and why did you launch the business?
We started Magic Horizons GmbH in 2018. Our aim is to help as many possible stressed out people as well as people suffering from anxiety as possible. Our VR experiences can be used at home, before bed, in airports, hospitals as well as at work.
What are your biggest milestones to date?
We are proud to have Humboldt-Universität as a scientific research partner. We have developed 21 VR experiences that based on real nature ranging from binaural beats up to neurofeedback interactive experiences. We have customers such as German Telekom who not only licenses our Relax VR videos for Magenta VR but have also put us in the 5G accelerator program. We are very involved in the future 5G network helping accelerate VR/AR/XR streaming from the XR cloud. Big corporates like Huawei invite us to cooperate and exhibit at their fairs as these companies want to show ‘VR for good’.
What is your target market and how big is it?
For now, we work only in B2B. The target market is in airports, hospitals, corporates (employee well-being) dentists and waiting rooms as our VR experiences is mainly based on music and we do language localization (English and German, currently starting Chinese) we aim to adress a global market of stressed out people.
In Germany the ‘mental hamster wheel’ (stress, burnout up to depression) causes a loss of €7,8bn every year. Globally it can cost up to €1tn per year. At a later stage, we aim to cater to B2C for at-home use as well.
Why will you be successful?
We are very experienced in immersive technologies. We worked with Fraunhofer Institute, Dolby, 360 Planetarium. We have scientific research and a partnership with Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin.
We are a 150% committed team, passionate about what we do and have a huge ESP in creating beautiful VR for a global wide range of users. The users must be very excited after a stressful to come back home to Magic Horizons VR experiences on a regular basis
What is your next big challenge?
Our dependency on what VR hardware the big vendors like HTC, Oculus (Facebook), Huawei deploy. Most VR hardware is still bulky, although resolution is increasing it can still be improved. We only provide software only we hope that the newest VR sets have improved hardware.
What are you looking for at NOAH?
We are looking for the next level of funding, corporate use cases and other startups for collaboration. We also hope to have inspiring conversations with inspiring people.
Are you planning to raise funds over the coming months and what criteria should your ideal investor have?
Yes, we plan to raise funds within the next month. The business angels who have already investing in us are primarily focused on impact and digital health investing. We are looking for an investor who share the same focus as our angels. Ideally, we are looking for investors who can provide us with strategic support in order to help us reach as many customers as possible in order to turn Magic Horizons into a global VR brand
